This story begins as so many do, about boy and his dog—Oliver and Winston, in this case. Everything changed when Oliver learned about “Dog Years” and how dogs age seven years for every year a person ages. Oliver’s birthday wish was to age in dog years like Winston. What could go wrong?

The story takes you through life on two levels; one in which Oliver ages seven years each birthday, versus, aging at the normal rate of a person. At first, Oliver is quite happy with his wish but then he begins to regret his decision when he aged too quickly!

Will Oliver be able to turn back the clock before it’s too late?

See how Oliver ages in “Dog Years” on one page versus how he ages in “People Years” on the other page.

“helps children learn to enjoy each and every moment of Their childhood.”

— Todd Detering, author of The Boy Who Aged in Dog Years

About todd and the real-life winston

I started to write the genesis of this story when my son was two years-old and we had our miniature schnauzer named Gunther. But then my manuscript went into hibernation for 19 years as life went on. . .

It was not until I read Kate Volman’s book, Do What You Love, that reawakened my dream of completing this book and manifested itself into what you see today.

My little Havanese, the real-life Winston, is ta great co-star of this story and the king of my heart. This book is for my children, who heard me talking about this story for years. It’s special for me to see them actually holding the real book in their hands. I love them so much.
